Media Council of Bermuda
Media Council of Bermuda

Thank you for your interest in the Media Council of Bermuda.

We have two main goals  — to help resolve complaints against the media and to protect freedom of expression.

This website walks you through the complaints process and, through our Code of Practice, sets ethical and professional standards for media outlets.

Regulation of the media is a sensitive issue because a balance has to be struck between individual rights, the duty to inform and consideration of the public good.

For the first time, media outlets in Bermuda have come together to formally recognize that their freedom to report and comment is a gift from the public that carries considerable responsibilities.

The media are a powerful force in our community and claim significant privileges as they seek to hold others to account. The Media Council will help make the media more accountable to the public they serve and in doing so, strengthen their vital role in our island democracy.
